Community Weaving Workshops

Community members were invited to learn how to weave and contribute to a collaborative weaving on a flipped table loom at Making Space BMORE during my Third Place artist residency. This flipped table loom was a teaching model that I learned from the work of Joyce Scott. Instructional resources were provided from her retrospective exhibition with the Interpretation Department at the BMA.

Interior Design

& 3D Modeling

Students learned about the principles of design & the elements of art. Then, they played a game to learn how to use sketch up, a 3d modeling software.

Afterwards, students were tasked with designing their own socially conscious restaurant. You can see samples of student work from this project below.

Scavenger Hunts & Art Education Games

Throughout my teaching career, I have created a wide range of scavenger hunts and art education games for students to experience art firsthand in engaging ways.

Collaborative Mural Projects

I have taught students about public art, large scale installations and facilitated collaborative student mural projects.

STEM Art

Wherever possible, I try to integrate interdisciplinary learning.

In this project, students learn how to create an electric circuit and make art that lights up!

Ceramics

Students learned about a variety of ceramic techniques and sculptors, which they then applied to custom designed projects - ranging from a pinch pot “Finjan” (small arabic coffee cup) to bobble heads to game designs to hanging ceramic sculptures.

This course focused on fundamental hand building techniques.

Sketchbook Project

Students are tasked with filling a sketchbook cover to cover. I designed this project for students to independently direct their own learning, explore a wide range of media, embrace challenge & express learning in multiple ways. At the end of the project, students learn video skills and create a culminating sketchbook video, which is then entered into a school wide competition.

Click on the videos below to watch some sample student projects.

Heritage Collage

Students learned about collage techniques and artists, like Njideka Crosby, and applied the principles of design & elements of art to create a thematic collage based on interviews with family members, reflections on their personal heritage & memories.

Wheat Paste Walls

Students learned about the technique of wheat paste and created collective wheat paste walls to display their artwork, both around themes of social justice and from their sketchbooks.

Their posters and stickers were printed for them to distribute and put up in Hamilton, NY.

This was funded by Colgate University’s Art & Art History department.
